End of financial year
by Philip Scott
We all have our weaknesses.
Yes, Ill admit I have more than most, but probably my BIGGEST weakness of all is paperwork, and bookkeeping.
Funny thing is Im actually really good at it. I have a natural ability when it comes to all things related to numbers and accounting. It feels like a million years ago but I got a distinction in Accounting. In fact at one stage we were given a score relative to the class average.
My score was 54.
Lets think about this for a second. Lets assume I was perfect (duh!) and scored 100% on my exam. For my score to be 54 the class average had to be ... 46%.
There are a few possibilities here. Either everyone in my class was really stupid (hope none of them are reading this!), or maybe I was sneaky enough to get a copy of the exam before hand, or I have a natural ability when it comes to these things.
Whichever you choose, the fact is I do not like accounting, or bookkeeping, and I especially hate taxes ... even though I know that taxes here are actually beneficial to us, doesnt stop me from hating it.
Recently I decided that I need to stop getting my bookkeeper to do my books because I wanted to get a better handle on my personal financial affairs. Im not talking about our company stuff ... Shane takes care of that. He hates it too, but he drew the short straw ...besides, Im better at programming than he is!
I took over the MYOB files and started working on it. I was way behind, I detested MYOB, I think it is one of the dumbest applications ever written. So I went searching for a better solution.
I found it.
Its called Xero.
