Mental stocktake
by Philip Scott
Life is busy!
All these nice tools we have, computers, iPads (I dont have one), iPhones ... they really just make life go faster and faster. Everything is at your fingertips no matter where you are, so if youre conscientious and ambitious ... you can work wherever, whenever.
Great.
It comes at a price though doesnt it? When do you rest? When do you just take stock of where you are? There is always something else to do.
Sure, Ive trained myself to relax when Im not working and thats great. Problem is I go from 100% to 0% ... and then again from 0% to 100%. But having an active mind, even when Im at 0% it takes the smallest little impulse and Im back at 100%!
Often Ive been accused of not listening (you can guess!) and while it has never been my intention to not listen, I do have the ability to just switch off to everything else and just focus on what Im thinking about ... 100%. Yell at me all you like but chances are I wont even HEAR you! Im not ignoring you, its just that I am using 100% of my brain-power ... and there is nothing left to tap in to my auditory senses. Bashing me on the head does get my attention though.
Im sure youre not as bad as I am ... but surely all of us sometimes need to just sit at idle ... you know maybe at 10% or 20% capacity. This would be the time to just reflect on where you are. Sometimes we can get so focused on what were doing we forget to check if that is still the path we should be on. Sure youve figured out exactly how to get the most from your fax machine ... but if you never took stock it may never dawn on you that using a fax machine is ... how would my 9 year old son put it ... an epic fail!
So take your SAbona card, pop over to Mokacinos at Robina Village and treat yourself to a nice coffee, tell Pete that Philip sent you ... and take some time to just chill for a bit ... and view life (and your business) from 10,000 feet (or thereabouts) up. Itll do you the world of good.
And if not, at least Pete gets some business out of you and you get to use your SAbona card.
