Roosterbrood

A friendly local bakery may give you bread dough if you give them a days notice. This makes the task easy but if you have to make the breads proceed as follows:
1 kg flour
1 teaspoon salt
10g sachet of instant yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons sunflower oil
ascorbic acid tablet dissolved in a little water
Warm water to mix
In either a blender of processor thoroughly mix the dry ingredients and then add the water (with the dissolved ascorbic acid tablet) to make a dough that sticks together and is pliable.
Put it in a lightly oiled bowl and leave to rise in a warm place. When its risen beat it down and form it into rolls and place on baking tray, again covered with a cloth, and leave to rise for about another 45 minutes.
Grill the breads over hot coals until they sound hollow when tapped.
Its a good idea to slice tomato and onion, season it lightly with salt, pepper, some sugar and herbs, and cook these on a flat tray or in a tinfoil boat alongside the breads.
Spread the cooked roosterbrood with butter, and let everyone dollop some tomato and onion onto them and eat round the fire.
Cooks Note: The small amount of ascorbic acid feeds the yeast and helps it to rise and produce a better result.
