Louis Brittzs Downunder Tour
by Cheryl Goodenough
South African singer and songwriter Louis Brittz will be performing in Australia in February.
At the time of writing concerts were booked in Perth and Brisbane, but details about additional performances will be available through Louis website and SAbona.
Louis is a 40 year old lawyer by training, who is now setting trends in South Africa as a Christian singer and songwriter, worship leader, music producer and public speaker. He is the chief executive officer of Merchant Music, a South African record label that records, markets and distributes quality South African music.
Louis recently produced albums for The Soweto String Quartet, Laurika Ranch and Retief Burger (Luidkeels).
Louis describes himself as super excited to be visiting Australia and New Zealand for the first time. I love visiting South Africans who live abroad and through the years it has become an important part of my music ministry to touch base with them, encourage them and just bring them a gift of music and worship from back home, he says.
Louis hopes that South Africans in a 100km radius of the performance venues will come out to the shows and church services, listen to the music and take part in the worship. And that theyll bring their Aussie friends along!
Having become a Christian in his first year at university, Louis says that he received his calling to be in ministry a week later at a Campus Missions Week. He continued his studies, but also wrote songs and started to lead worship. He worked for two years as a candidate attorney, but his gifts as a songwriter, evangelist, mobiliser and worship leader had become known and he left to go into full-time ministry, performing and leading worship across South Africa.
Louis has recorded 11 CDs containing self written songs in English and Afrikaans as well as well known praise and worship material.
His work has been nominated for and won local music awards and many leading South African gospel artists have recorded songs written by Louis.
He also writes articles and columns for Christian magazines, has published his first book and is completing work on his second.
Tracks from Louis recent albums have been played on British and Canadian Christian radio and he has been rated high and interviewed by Cross Rhythms magazine in the United Kingdom. CCM magazine in the United States called him South Africas Sting.
Louis performs about 40 shows per year with a band made up of professional musicians.
We deliver a dynamic performance built on worship and acoustic rock music, with African, European and American influences, he says. Its a unique style.
Louis has toured England, Scotland, the United States, Canada, Namibia, Belgium, Bosnia, Turkey and the Ukraine.
Louis has also developed a course in leading praise and worship and has trained more than 300 worship teams from 14 denominations in a number of countries around the world.
Louis is married to Hettie and they have three small children Idalise, Pero and Simoné.
What to expect at Louis Down Under performances
Im bringing with me some top-notch musicians, who have been nominated for SAMA awards (thats the South African Grammys). As a result people can expect high quality music and singing. They can expect to hear some of their favourite worship songs from South Africa and will have the opportunity to sing their hearts out. I will also have some CDs and DVDs, that arent for sale in Australia, with me for people to buy at the events.
