The Untold Secret of Cheslin Kolbe 's blistering try
by Sporty Mac
Cast your mind back to that fateful night in Yokahama on 2 November 2019, where (much to the dismay of the All Blacks who had beaten them in the pools) the Springboks were squaring up against England.
Just under 1000 passionate Springbok rugby fans were gathered at the BokTown Event in Brisbane and there was a sense of excitement you could feel in the air as the crowd united in one voice with "Let us live and strive for freedom, In South Africa our land"!
By half time celebratory drinks were already flowing, possibly because there was this perception that a miracle was unfolding, with the Boks leading 12-6 thanks to Handre Pollard's golden boot. No one was expecting the events of the second half.
By the 74th minute the 25-12 lead seem to have everyone believing the cup was hours, so when Cheslin Kolbe got his hands on the ball and completely messed with the heads of the English defenders, the Stock Exchange Hotel absolutely erupted, as no doubt every venue in the world that housed even a solitary Springbok fan did!
That image of Kolbe speeding across the try-line will be forever etched into our most pleasant of memories. Kolbe's admission that he surprised himself, that he didn't even think about what he was doing, that his body just took over and it just happened, is probably a secret none of us mind him sharing. In fact, it probably makes him even more of a champion in our eyes! As they say in Aus ... you beauty mate!
